I must say, I grew up in this neighborhood. I was very surprised to see that they were able to fit a 71 room hotel right on a corner square of what used to be just an empty lot for many, many years. I have to give them their just due, only because the place was clean, the employees were very friendly and helpful and its close to everything. My only complaint is that there is only one entrance and exit. I feel that this is considered a fire hazard. My room was right next door to the emergency exit and someone kept going in and out of it all night, the door slammed so loud it woke us up many times. They need to get that straightened out. Other than that, I would recommend it to a friend. Its not a five star but its doable...

The shuttle driver drove way to fast. When he opened the back of the shuttle my CPAP (breathing machine) fell out and broke. I filed a claim, right then. with the front desk. The driver lied, said my machine never fell on the ground! The rooms were very small, dirty and the walls so thin, I could hear the person in the next room change his mind!!! Breakfast was included, to bad they did not have a basic item, napkins. When I asked where the napkins were, the employee pointed to the paper towel machine by the sink. I would never stay here again in a million years.

This hotel is very dirty the rooms smell are very small, the furniture is musty and smelly the blankets look about 20 years old. The toilet constantly got stopped up. The bathroom had hair on it and the showere curtain smelled like mold and for 90 dollars a night it's not worth it pay a little more and stay some where that's cleaner. The taxi driver over charged me for going 10miles he charged me which later I learned was only a fair. The cab driver was part of the hotel crew. BE AWARE OF THIS PLACE

Our flight was cancelled and we had to transfer airports from La Guardia to JFK.  The shuttle did pick us up which was a plus.  When we arrived we were shocked.  The hotel was in a rough area.  Luckily we did not have a car to worry about because that would be one more thing to worry about outside.  The rooms are small and look like a "no tell, motel" room-dirty including bathroom.  The shower takes about 3 minutes to warm up.  Furniture is old wood and smells like mold.  TV sattelite signal went out about every 5 minutes.  At 3 in the morning a fight broke out right outside our window in the alley. The one saving grace is they did have breakfast with a waffle machine, but that would not inspire me to stay again!

I was quite happy with the Howard Johnson Inn. The room was clean, good wireless internet connection and being so tired the planes at JFK were not a noise problem. Bus at the front door to the subway made accessing central NY not a problem. The hotel airport shuttle was good but DO remember to use the free phone to let them know you wished to be picked up. Unlike more popular hotels they only come on request. On departing they drop you at the terminal you need. Almost next door to a 24hr Burger King but a fair distance to any other food places so stock up on booze and nibbles before coming back to the hotel. Breakfast 6.30am to 10.30am is self serve and good value, Cereals, pastry's, waffles, toast, coffee and fruit juices. Hey it ain't the Ritz but a good clean bed for the night!
